Magnetized Razorwing WIP

I need to clean this Razorwing up because I got a lot of superglue finger prints on it.  The green stuff is fresh so I still need to scrub and sand it down.  I used 1/16" by 1/32" magnets on the missiles, moorings, and dark lances.  To magnetize the gun mounts I just sawed off the tabs on the back of the Dark Lances and glued them into the slots.  Then I drilled holes into those.  1/8" magnets on the stand and undercarriage.

Magnetizing Dark Eldar Infantry

For all intents and purposes I've scrapped my Kabalite Warriors in favor of redoing them with magnets and a, hopefully, better paint job.  This will allow me to customize their weapons loadouts.  They can also pull double duty as Trueborn when I need them too.

I did a little trial and error investigating and I've come to the conclusion that the best size for magnetizing DE is 1/16" by 1/32".  These are very tiny magnets that fit perfectly in the slim shoulders and torsos of DE models.  I've found that the perfect drill bit to use with this size magnet is a 1/8".  It creates a hole just a tad bit bigger than the magnet so the fit is snug without being a bother.  This is important because, again, these are really tiny magnets that can be a bit annoying when handled with man hands.

Normally, I'd suggest covering the magnet with green stuff, but in this case its counter productive.  The magnet is just powerful enough to hold a limb.  If you added a layer of green stuff I'm not sure how well it would attract its counterpart magnet.

Reference photo.  The top line of magnets are 1/8" by 1/16".  I use these for Terminators and Marines.  The bottom magnets are the 1/16" by 1/32".  There are 96 of them in this photo.

Some Dark Eldar Vehicle magnetization

Currently magnetizing my new Venom and a Ravager I've had sitting on the shelf.  I'm not 100% satisfied with the Venom splinter cannon.  Its sitting a little too high because of the space needed for the magnet and the really flimsy tab that they put onto the turret in the first place.  I still have to trim down the green stuff though so we'll see how it ends up.  The underslung splinter cannon/twin linked splinter rifle mounts will be a snap though.

The Ravager was kind of a nightmare because of huge gaps between the bottom and the sides.  Filled those with green stuff.  Put magnets on the sponson mounts to allow for me to run it as Raider when needed.  I'm currently working out how I'm going to mount magnets on the side guns because they're rather flimsy as well.  Its so much easier to magnetize Marine vehicles.  Ugh, the Talos/Cronos is going to be just as bothersome.  Oh well, I love the versatility of magnets so its just something to adapt too.

Time to buy more green stuff too!

Wolf Lord and Archon Progress

Made an order to the Warstore and Secret Weapons Miniatures today.  This motivated me to get some work done on projects collecting dust.  Namely my Bran Redmaw model.  He was my first attempt at magnetizing a terminator chassis and arms.  The torso was dremmeled out and magnets were superglued and green stuffed into place.  At first, I cheaped out and only used paper clips bent into circles and green stuffed onto the arms.  This was done to conserve magnets, but the hold has never been to my liking.  I decided to dremmel out some new arms and build up a configuration to make him a Counts As Logan Grimnar.  Logan's going to unlock Wolf Guard as troops for me, but his GW official model is ridiculous looking.

In total, this one magnetized Wolf Lord Chassis will eventually come to represent various Wolf Lords/Wolf Priests/Rune Priests/Logan Grimar/Njal/etc etc.

I also finally got off the fence and ripped off the arms on my Archon.  Dusk Blade + Soul Trap is a nasty configuration, but I prefer the cheaper Agonizer/Blaster setup in games that aren't IC heavy.

A bunch of new Grey Knight bits on my cutting board.

WIP Bran Redmaw Wolf Lord

The arms are magnetized so that I can switch out his weapons loadout.  Figured I'd start off with the Wolf Claws because well...Bran's a beast.  The giant flowing pimp cape is sticky tacked in place since I'm painting it separately.
